A native Kentuckian, Joey Carmon is a virtuoso 5-string banjo player bringing "Top Shelf" bluegrass music to the Jazz & Beyond Music festival. Joey called on two pickers with bluegrass royalty to fill out the group.

"My first pick was Cindy Gray on acoustic guitar and vocals. Cindy has bluegrass royalty running in her blood! She has been in demand as a longtime bluegrass performer and instructor all over the country.

My next choice was Bob Fairchild on acoustic bass and vocals. Bob adds a power vocal and stage presence that he has perfected like nobody else!"

Photograph of Jo Foster and Larry Marinel Cowboy Poets - Sunday 8/16/2026 - 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. - Silver Saddle Ranch, 4901 Carson River Road

This year we feature three Cowboy Poets at Silver Saddle Ranch: Dennis Golden, Larry Marinel, and Jo Foster.

Jo Foster and Larry Marinel are outdoor enthusiasts with a love for Nevada and Cowboy Poetry. The Cowboy Gathering in Elko is a favorite destination of theirs for inspiration and entertainment. Jo Foster is a recently-minted cowboy poet. In 2016, she retired as an ecology professor from Wartburg College, located in Waverly, Iowa. However, her heart called her back to Nevada where her family lived since 1969. She and her husband Larry became fans of cowboy poetry at their introduction to this genre in Elko, NV. After seeing how much fun Larry had creating his poems, she decided to join in too. Photograph of Dennis Golden

Dennis Golden is a Producer with Golden Film Productions, producing documentaries and educational videos addressing environmental and political issues threatening those who live and work in the rural West.
