Retro Radio Dolls

Hailing from the heart of Reno, Nevada, the Retro Radio Dolls are a
harmonious trio that transports audiences back in time to the golden age of radio.
Since their inception in 2015, Natalie, Alex, and Kay have captivated listeners with
their unique blend of nostalgia and modern flair, breathing new life into beloved
classics. Specializing in retro tunes from iconic girl groups like The Andrews Sisters,
The Supremes, and The Shirelles, the Retro Radio Dolls put their own distinctive
spin on each song, infusing it with fresh harmonies and infectious energy that keeps
audiences coming back for more.
Members of the group are Natalie Jones, Vocalist; Alexandra Burley, Vocalist; and Kay Davis, Vocalist.

Darrell and the Darrell-Licks

Darrell Effinger was a member of the New Christy Minstrels and appears on the
PBS Special "This Land Is Your Land." He has performed with the Kingston Trio,
Peter of Peter, Paul & Mary, and Roger McGuinn of the Byrds; for several years he
toured and performed with Glenn Yarbrough. Among Darrell's many accomplishments
is a song he wrote for Pete Seeger, "Ya Gotta Sing Out," that he sang on National
Public Radio. Darrell continues to entertain as a solo and as the leader of his group,
"Darrell & the Darrell-Licks"!!
Alan Klein has been performing as a singer/songwriter/guitarist for over
55 years, both as a soloist and with various bands, including as a founding member
of "Vintage Fare." His music is inspired by folk, country and soft rock, which he
combines to reflect what he calls "boomer ballads."
Bill Heilmann is a musician, songwriter and singer and plays multiple
instruments including electric bass, acoustic guitar and banjo. Over the years he
has performed as a soloist and with various bands and recently was with the Irish and
Scottish folk music band, Celtic Grey.
Members of the group are Darrell Effinger, acoustic guitar & vocals;
Bill Heilmann, electric bass, acoustic guitar, banjo & vocals; and
Alan Klein, acoustic guitar & vocals.

Mile High Jazz Band's Basie's Birthday Concert
Date: Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025
Time: 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Location: Bob McFadden Plaza Stage, Carson St. between 2nd and 4th Streets
The Mile High Jazz Band will be performing its annual Basie Birthday Concert on
Thursday, August 21, 2024, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Bob McFadden Plaza Stage as a
featured event of the Jazz & Beyond Music Festival. Resident singer Jakki Ford and
guest vocalists Dale Head and Millie Bratsch will be joining the band in this performance.
Count Basie was born August 21, 1904, and was the inspiration for the first
Carson City festival that gradually came to be known as Jazz & Beyond. The performanc is free,
and audience is encouraged to bring their own chairs, since seating is limited.
The Mile High Jazz Band, an 18-member "big band" composed of 17 instrumentalists
and a vocalist, began performing in 1997. The group features music in the Count
Basie-Duke Ellington-Woody Herman tradition, as well as more contemporary styles,
selected from a repertoire of over 200 tunes. They play ballads, high-powered jazz
tunes, and dance music arranged by Nestico, Niehaus, Taylor, and other great arrangers.

Vocals: Jakki Ford, Dale Head (guest), Millie Bratsch (guest)
