Call for Artists - Two Jazz & Beyond Opportunities
Art Contest for Poster and Program Cover
Open Studios Tour Entries

The 2022 Jazz & Beyond Music and Art Festival is calling artists for two opportunities. First
is an art contest for poster and program design. Second is participation in the fourth annual
Carson City Open Studios Tour in August. Entry deadline for both is May 17, 2022.
For the art contest, Nevada artists, including teachers and students, are eligible to
submit entries. The winning design will be used to promote the Jazz & Beyond festival, will
be featured on the festival poster, program cover, and potentially on a T-shirt, and the
winner will receive a cash award of $100. Entry forms are available for download at
milehighjazz.com/artcontest2022.pdf.
Participation is free and artists may submit up to
three entries. For more information, email info@milehighjazz.com.
The Carson City Open Studios Tour will include one-day and two-day options. Visual art
from painting, sculpture, and 3D art to jewelry and photography, will be exhibited and
demonstrated in about a dozen individual and shared studio spaces. Each artist selected will
also have one piece exhibited in the month-long NAA Summer Show.
The one-day tour will be Friday, August 19, 12 to 5 p.m., at the Bliss Mansion and the
NAA (Nevada Artists Association) Gallery. The two-day tour will be Saturday and Sunday,
August 20 and 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at multiple studios throughout Carson City. Artists
may participate in either the one-day tour, the two-day tour, or both. Some locations will
include live music. Application forms are available at

Jazz & Beyond Music and Art Festival is Coming

The 19th Annual Jazz & Beyond Music & Art Festival will be August 5 to August 21, 2022.
Events will take place around downtown Carson City, including McFadden Plaza and the
Capital Amphitheater. Various performing artists are being lined up, including
the Reno Jazz Orchestra, Mile High Jazz Band, The Red Tango, Niall McGuinness and the New
World Jazz Project, Take This, and trumpeter Josh Reed, who will be doing a lecture-presentation
at the Nevada State Museum on August 18.
As part of Jazz & Beyond, the Carson City Open Studios Tour will include visual art

David & Friends Perform in Mills Park Before Free Movie
to Promote Jazz & Beyond Festival

The group, David and Friends, will be performing on Friday, July 29, from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. before a
free summer outdoor family movie night in Mills Park. They are promoting the Jazz & Beyond Music
and Art Festival, which starts with a free event at the Governor's Mansion on Friday, August 5, featuring
the Reno Jazz Orchestra. David and Friends
is made up of Jake Xie on sax, Bill Melendres on trumpet, David Bugli on keyboard, Frank
Iannetta on bass, and Kevin Milburn on drums.
The Carson City Classic Cinema Club,
Garrett Lepire, and Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space are once again teaming up
to present a schedule of free summer outdoor family movie nights at Mills Park. Following
the jazz presentation on July 29, the audience will get to view "Soul," a 2020
computer-animated film produced by
Pixar Animation Studios that won two Academy Awards.

Jazz & Beyond Festival Planned for Aug. 11-21, 2023

The Jazz & Beyond Planning Committee met recently and are working on plans for the
twentieth Jazz & Beyond festival. While many details remain to be decided, the committee
has outlined plans for the festival to begin on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, and end on the
119th birthday of William "Count" Basie, Monday, Aug. 21, 2023. The committee is looking
forward to bringing back several of the exciting acts from past
years. Details about the festival will be posted on the festival's website at jazzcarsoncity.com.

Jazz & Beyond 2023 Ð Poster Art Contest Winner Announced

The Jazz & Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2023 poster and
program cover art contest is Carol Foldvary-Anderson. Her design, "Digital Collage Improv," was
selected from eight entries to highlight the 20th annual Carson City music festival.
Carol Foldvary-Anderson, a mixed media, multi award-winning, Nevada State Roster artist
best known for her Oil Pastel Smudge technique and Calligraphy, has recently been experimenting
with digital images. She said "My goal in life is to create art and to bring beauty into
the world. I am very proud to have my art represent the 2023 Jazz & Beyond festival!"
Jazz & Beyond will feature more than twenty free concerts at many Carson City venues. It
opens with the Reno Jazz Orchestra on Friday, August 11, outdoors at the Governor's Mansion.
The country-themed Day at the Silver Saddle Ranch will be on Sunday, August 13. The festival
will close with the Mile High Jazz Band on Count BasieÕs birthday, August 21, at McFadden
Plaza Stage.
The full schedule of events on the websites JazzCarsonCity.com and Milehighjazz.com will
be updated frequently. Annual Jazz & Beyond Festivals are presented by the Mile High Jazz
Band Association and are supported by grants from the Carson City Cultural Commission, the
Nevada Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, and by private donations.

Jazz & Beyond Committee Announces 2025 Art Contest

Mile High Band Association's 2025 Jazz & Beyond Festival Committee is sponsoring
an art contest for northern Nevada artists, including teachers and students. Selected
entries in the competition may be used to promote the festival, and the winning entry
will be featured on the festival's advertising poster and program cover. Festival T-shirts
this year may also feature the winning design. The entry deadline is
Thursday, May 1, 2025. Participation is free.
The artwork will be judged by a Jazz & Beyond committee. The winner of the competition
will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music
Festival and a cash award of $200. Art Contest Coordinator Alexander Cassimus said,
"The artist's work will be front and center, viewed by thousands of festival patrons."
Entry forms are available for download from
jazzcarsoncity.com/artcontest2025.pdf (click on the link).
Artists may submit more than one entry. Artwork must be 11"x14" and may be in any
two-dimensional medium (photography, digital collage and photography, watercolor,
acrylic, oil, etc.). Artwork must be matted, backed, and submitted in a protective sleeve.
The design should relate to music. Each submission requires a separate entry form.
Artists are asked to deliver their entries by Thursday, May 1, to the NAA Gallery,
449 W. King Street, Carson City, Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m.,
or contact Alexander Cassimus at 408-264-4423 or away4@earthlink.net for other options.
The entry form and a photo or digital image of the artwork (not to exceed 20 MB)

Jazz & Beyond Planners Announce Entertainment for 2025

The planners of the Jazz & Beyond Festival are proud to announce most of the performers
for this year's festival. Besides some of the finest jazz talent the area has to offer,
we feature other styles of music and entertainment
including country & western, folk, latin music, ragtime, and
even cowboy poetry.

form. It is a convenient way to provide us with the information we need to prepare
printed programs and content for the festival's website at JazzCarsonCity.com.

some information can be subject to change as we get closer to the event, so please convey
those changes in a timely manner to dcbugli@aol.com so that planners can make appropriate
changes to our planning documents, publicity, etc.

Preliminary Information on Jazz & Beyond 2025

We are proud to announce that the Jazz & Beyond Music festival will start on Friday,
Aug. 15, 2025 (featuring the Reno Jazz Orchestra) and end on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025.
Also, the Mile High Jazz Band will be presenting is "Basie' Birthday" Event on
Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025.
