Kantu Inka - Wednesday 8/21/2024 - 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Comma Courtyard
Kantu Inka interprets Latin American and Peruvian folkloric music on traditional
Andean instruments which include charango, quena, and zampo–a. Carlos Ocampo and Julie
Lozada Ocampo originally formed Kantu Inka in 2003 to bring cultural presentations of live
Andean music to classrooms in northern Nevada. The duo subsequently evolved to perform in
a variety of venues throughout Nevada and California. Kantu Inka has played for Jazz and
Beyond events for several years, has been included on the Pioneer Center Youth Program
teaching roster since 2022 and also is a Nevada Arts Council Teaching Artist.

The Jazzettes USA - Wednesday 8/21/2024 - 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. - Comma Courtyard
THE JAZZETTES USA is a music group of longtime friends and professional singing
musicians featuring Cami Thompson on percussion and vocals, Julie Machado on upright and
electric basses and vocals and Erika Paul on piano/keyboard and vocals. These ladies of
song play an eclectic mix of jazz, swing, blues, standards, latin, R&B, pop, rock, bluegrass,
vintage classics, rarely heard treasures and comic delights together. Between solo features
with back-up vocals and three-part harmony, these three talented sisters in music have great
fun together making the music and sharing it! Between the three of them, there are easily
150 years of accumulated experience, education, dedication and professional stage time in
music, teaching and performance. Together on stage, they are simply musical magic.
And they all still refuse to act their age!

Mile High Jazz Band - Basie's 120th Birthday Concert - Wednesday 8/21/2024 - 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. - McFadden Plaza Stage
The Mile High Jazz Band, an 18-member "big band" composed of 17 instrumentalists
and a vocalist, began performing in 1997. The group features music in the Count Basie-Duke
Ellington-Woody Herman tradition, as well as more contemporary styles, selected from a
repertoire of over 200 tunes. They play ballads, high-powered jazz tunes, and dance music
arranged by Nestico, Niehaus, Taylor, and other great arrangers.
Mile High Jazz Band performs for community events, fundraisers, dances, receptions, private
parties, and in concert. They have played benefits for New York Firefighters, Red Cross
Disaster Relief, Carson-Tahoe Hospital Foundation, Douglas County Library Foundation, and
the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. They have been featured in concerts at the
Brewery Arts Center and on the Carson City Symphony's "Holiday Treat" and "Pops Party" concerts.
They play monthly at Comma Coffee and collaborate with local poets in quarterly "Jazz and Poetry"
events, alternating poetry readings with related musical selections. Mile High Jazz Band has
performed in Carson City, Reno, Minden, Fallon, Yerington, Stateline, Incline Village,
Virginia City, and Crystal Bay.
