Monique De Haviland: Singer, songwriter, European/American recording artist (EMI/Columbia, Jugoton/Hr, Corona/Si record labels); ASCAP publishing: Mobandi Music. Monique attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, after which she recorded numerous originals on various labels between Central Europe and the West Coast of the United States (available currently on all platforms). She regularly performs locally with her band Moxy Ruckus (www.MoxyRuckus.com), and the Monique De Haviland Band performing jazz and variety in the Northern Nevada and California areas. She has performed/recorded with musicians of Earth Wind & Fire, War, Eddie Money, Richard Marx, Jelly Bread, and even Buck Owens' Buckaroo band. In Europe she performed regularly with the Ljubljana Big Band, bringing her great American songbook stylings.

Daniel Dillon: Jazz pianist, San Francisco/New York studied at Juilliard School of Music and toured with Mel Ellison, Eddie Marshal, Art Pepper, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Horace Silver Quintet, and McCoy Tyner's band. Recently he moved to the Reno area.

Timothy Goldsmith: Bassist, vocalist, songwriter, from the East Bay, performed and sang with Frank Biner (an associate of Tower of Power) and other Bay Area bands, locally he performs in various local jazz and R&B combos at Nevada Museum of Art, Bank Saloon, Gina's, Clear Creek.

Andy Shulman: Jazz drummer, studied under Freddie Gruber and was influenced by Steve Gadd, David Garibaldi, Harvey Mason, and Buddy Rich. Andy regularly performs in the Reno Tahoe area with various combos (Phatman & Robin, Moxy Ruckus).

Featuring saxophone, flute, percussion, piano, bass and drums, New World Jazz Project performs groove-oriented original compositions and nouveau arrangements of American standards in styles ranging from adult contemporary to bebop and beyond. Led by Niall McGuinness, New World Jazz Project features some of the best players in the Reno/Tahoe area, delivering their soulful sound on a backdrop of Latin and Afro-jazz rhythms.

Performers are: Niall McGuinness, saxophones, flute and percussion; Peter Supersano, piano; Miles Keichler, bass; Neil Strocchio, drums; and Luke Alessandroni, congas.

"Take This Band" Performance Moved Again

Because of cold and windy conditions expected tonight (Friday, Aug. 23), Cherie and John Shipley's "Take This Band" performance has been moved to the Performance Hall (the old church building) at the Brewery Arts Center. The concert will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Take This is a JAZZ group with a funky edge, with Cherie Shipley on lead vocals. This band includes stellar musicians: John Shipley, popular jazz keyboardist, who also adds vocals, sax/flute from Nat Kline, Mike Kirkhouse on bass, and Tyler Pow on drums, broadens the sound dramatically.

Take This covers classic jazz standards along with an eclectic repertoire of jazzy arranged material. Cherie has resilient and smooth alto vocals, harmonies, and vibrant stage presence. Her style is smooth but sassy, presenting a range of rhythms and jazz grooves.

Performers are: Cherie Shipley - vocals, John Shipley - keys, Mike Kirkhouse - bass, Nat Kline - sax/flute, and Tyler Pow - drums.

Music Performance Trust Fund (MPTF) is a funding sponsor of this event, in cooperation with Reno Musicians Union Local 368 AFM and its President, John Shipley.
